We deserve better: Mayor

Gunnedah Shire Council is turning the screws on its calls for additional resources ahead of the state budget on September 19. In a mayoral minute tabled at council’s August ordinary meeting, mayor Jamie Chaffey listed five priority areas – critical to the Gunnedah shire – for the government to address. These areas included regional growth, housing, skills, roads and transport and health. Council calls for a mandate on reform

It will be Groundhog Day for Gunnedah Shire Council at the 2023 National General Assembly (NGA) of Local Government after endorsing seven motions – several of which Gunnedah unsuccessfully lobbied for last year. Gunnedah’s 2023 motions cover topics such as nuclear energy, additional funds for regional roads and airports as well as a mandate to action all successful motions arising from the event. Flett, Thew considered for public infrastructure naming policy

Gunnedah Shire Council was last night set to consider two names ‘Flett’ and ‘Thew’ for inclusion on its Naming of Public Infrastructure and Public Acknowledgements Policy register. Council received a request from the Flett family for consideration of the ‘Flett’ name to be added to the policy name register, in honour of Maurice (Tom) Flett and Alice Flett. The request for inclusion is based on their contribution to Gunnedah’s infrastructure, farming and sporting sectors and the continued community participation of family members. Calls for calm after Dripping Rock road closure

There are calls for calm and understanding as landholders, locals and the Narrabri Shire Council try to figure out a safe and appropriate way for visitors to access and use the road to Dripping Rock, located near the beautiful town of Boggabri. For years, Dripping Rock has been one of the Narrabri region’s most spectacular tourist destinations, described as ‘a waterfall significantly more impressive than its name suggests’.
