Celebration of culture for Naidoc Week at Gunnedah South Public School 2024

Gunnedah primary school students have heard the importance of having confidence in one’s own cultural identity during the opening day of its Naidoc Week activities. Gunnedah South Public School hosted a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and indigenous performances at the Monday morning event. New school appointments for diocese

Director of Education from the Catholic Schools Office, Chris Smyth, has announced a number of new appointments at local schools, including St Mary’s College, Sacred Heart School Boggabri and St Francis Xavier’s School in Narrabri. First taste of big school for ‘Kindy in training’

Gunnedah South Public School’s leaders of tomorrow were offered a gentle introduction to ‘big school’ during kindergarten transition week. Last Friday was the first of six transition lessons – three half days and three full days – to be undertaken by the school’s future students. During these lessons, students have been split up into three groups and will stay in these groups for the duration of the transition, allowing extra time to forge new friendships ahead of start of kindergarten next year. Opening of new learning facilities for St Xavier’s

One of Gunnedah’s oldest schools had a modern update with new facilities which embrace a new age of teaching. St Xavier’s Primary School’s new facilities were in stark contrast to what was first established in 1879 by the Sisters of Mercy. At its core, however, a Catholic school still remains. Staff and students have been operating in the new classrooms and library since last year but an official opening and blessing was held on Friday.
