Newspaper publishing is not the easiest business to work in but it can certainly be one of the most rewarding. Last weekend we jagged another gong at the Country Press NSW awards – this time for photography. Last year we won two – for news writing and special publications.

Much of the judges’ commentary was glowing about the skill and expertise of our staff who help bring the paper together each week. We work hard to deliver the best product we can to you, our readership. It can be difficult work in more ways than one but the finished result is outstanding.

The awards event offered us the opportunity to check out what other country mastheads are up to, the stories they are writing, the photographs they’re taking and the advertising they’re booking. Hand on my heart, the Gunnedah Times is one of best produced newspapers around.

That is not to take away from quality publications elsewhere across the state but the Gunnedah Times as well as its sister publications, The Courier and Wee Waa News, are above and beyond the rest.

We are kicking goals, punching above our weight and that’s being recognised by our peers at award events like this. We wouldn’t be able to achieve any of this without the support of our loyal advertisers. Like us and our readers, they too see the value of an independently-owned and operated newspaper in a small community like Gunnedah.
