Firearms, ammunition stolen from Kelvin property

POLICE are appealing for information after firearms and ammunition were stolen from a property in Kelvin. Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a rural property on Kelvin Road, about 30km north-east of Gunnedah, about 5.30pm on Monday 27 July following reports of a break and enter. Police arrived and were told sometime between 9am on Sunday 26 July and 5.30pm on Monday 27 July 27, unknown people had forced entry into the home and forcibly removed a firearm safe containing firearms, damaging the wall and floor. North West pesticide users complying with laws but record-keeping concerns remain

MOST farmers and landholders across the North West are complying with the state’s pesticide laws, according to a targeted compliance campaign by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), although some sprayers have been warned to improve their record-keeping. The campaign assessed pesticide users across the local government areas of Moree, Narrabri, Walgett, Warren, Liverpool Plains, Gunnedah, Warrumbungle Shire, Coonabarabran and Gilgandra. The inspections resulted in 19 advisory letters and eight formal warnings being issued to landholders and sprayers found to have minor breaches of the Pesticides Act. Gunnedah Shire advocates for more road funding

ROADS are firmly in the spotlight for Gunnedah Shire Council, which will soon call on the state government to increase funding. The council will submit a motion seeking action at Local Government NSW’s annual conference later this year. As part of its push, the council will request LGNSW to call on the government to double ongoing recurrent funding from the Fixing Local Road and Regional Roads Programs to provide stability and certainty to councils to enable long-term planning and resourcing to occur with respect to roads. Fifty years since launch of 150-degree East Meridian information bay

A significant anniversary passed quietly earlier this year marking 50 years since the launch of the 150-degree East Meridian rest area and information bay. Located 27km east of Gunnedah on the Oxley Highway, the significant landmark was the brainchild of Tourist Activities Promotion committee president, Mikie Maas. Always looking for ways to promote her adopted home town, Mikie came up with the idea after asking her husband Max to make a sundial.
