Welcome to 2024 in Gunnedah Shire.
What better way to start our year than with the Australia Day celebrations that have become a much-loved tradition in Gunnedah Shire.
This year, the Australia Day Awards Dinner will include our special guests performer, TV personality and 2024 Australia Day ambassador Todd McKenney, and very popular Australian bush poet Murray Hartin.
These well-known Australians will join our award nominees for the annual event that honours members of our community who really make a difference.
Australia Day will also include many other events such as the citizenship ceremony, a fun day at Gunnedah Memorial Pool and activities around the Shire.
We are looking forward to a busy year at Gunnedah Shire Council. Progress continues on our Gunnedah Regional Saleyards redevelopment and the Gunnedah Koala Sanctuary, we have a new water treatment plant and the Gunnedah airport tarmac has been upgraded to make it fit-for-purpose for commercial passenger aircraft.
Gunnedah is growing, not only in population, but in new businesses, more community organisations and more options for people who enjoy all sorts of interests.
Council is continuing to work towards an even brighter future for Gunnedah through a budget of nearly $66 million, including $28.8 million of capital works.
This is also an election year for local government in New South Wales, and our community will go to the polls on September 14 to elect their council for the following four years.
Whatever 2024 might hold for your family and for our community, let’s hope this is a year that brings us all closer together and sees the achievement of some wonderful things for Gunnedah Shire.
