“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” – Aristotle

So how are those New Year’s resolutions going? Still on track? Let’s hope so, as it is only Day 12 of the New Year!

As Aristotle says above, we are what we repeatedly do – the decisions we make guide the actions we take, and it is our actions that define us, that show our strength of character.

The start of a new year is one of the few times that we are encouraged to think about the blank canvas that is the year ahead. What ‘picture’ do you want to create this year, what things/achievements would you like to see feature in your life this year? What are your dreams for 2024?

It might be giving up smoking, losing weight, drinking less alcohol, exercising more, eating healthier, pursuing that business idea, booking that travel trip to a far-away destination, spending more time with the kids, or changing careers. The changes you want might be less tangible – to be more tolerant and compassionate to others, be more patient in traffic (or when waiting for a passing coal train!), to feel more positive, to be happier, to be excited about life, to reconnect with a purpose in life.

It’s different for every person, but what is common to each of us is the truth of the above quote – we are what we repeatedly do. If you repeatedly decide to take the correct actions then you will move in the direction of your dreams and goals. If there were aspects of 2023 that you were not happy with, then the new year creates a perfect time to change your habits and so change your future.

You may be asking what does any of this have to do with real estate? Well you may have financial goals for the year ahead which require doing things differently this year. It may be saving for a house deposit, paying down the existing mortgage, or upgrading to a larger house. These goals may involve breaking some bad habits around spending and creating better habits around saving money.

In our business, we appreciate the need to repeatedly complete the actions that are required to achieve the goals we are working towards on behalf of our clients. Picking up the phone to make those calls, while at first seems difficult, done repeatedly eventually becomes a habit. Success doesn’t come overnight, but then anything worth having is worth striving for.

So from us at Hennessy Real Estate we wish you an excellent year ahead full of goals achieved, dreams realised and new and inspiring positive habits and we look forward to assisting with the successful pursuit of your real estate goals!
