Shane Carlson secured top claims in the Stan Keeler Classic held at Gunnedah’s Bluevale Speedway on Saturday night.

The street stocker race honours North West speedway veteran, the late Stan Keeler, whose family remain ever-present on the local competition circuit.

Fittingly, Stan’s grandson Trent Keeler raced his way to third place on the podium on Saturday behind Max Cotton in second.

Cotton told his speedway followers it was his first time back in the street stocker car for some time but he “couldn’t be happier” with how the car performed on the night.

“With 29 laps of side-by-side hard racing running flag-to-flag we brought the car home in 2nd,” he said.

“Congratulations to all the other podium finishers – Shane Carlson on his great win, Trent Keeler in third who provided us with some great side-by-side clean racing, Matt Cobb in fourth and Todd Keeler rounding out the top five.”

Meanwhile, Gunnedah also hosted the 2023/2024 NSW Formula 500 State Championship. The winner was ex-go-kart driver Jac Laneyrie, whose family has a long and reputable history on the sprintcar scene.
