The Gunnedah shire is preparing to commemorate Anzac Day on Thursday.

The date (April 25) marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War and the 109th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings in 1915.

In contemporary times, Anzac Day ceremonies now also commemorate all Australians who have served and died in military operations.

Ex-service personnel will join the Gunnedah community for the Anzac Day march along Conadilly Street starting at 10.30am. A memorial service will follow at the Gunnedah cenotaph at about 10.45am.

Meanwhile, an Anzac Day march will also be held at 8.45am in Curlewis before a 9am service, an 8.30am service will be held at Boggabri War Memorial, 10.45am at Tambar Springs and an 8.30am service at Breeza (8.15am if marching in Breeza).

Meanwhile, Anzac Day dawn services will also be held at Gunnedah Cenotaph Memorial (5.30am), Curlewis (5am) and Tambar Springs (5.20am).
