Friday, April 19 saw the end of an era for Gunnedah’s Salvation Army Family Store’s much-loved store manager, Wendy Eriksen.

After three years at the helm of the Chandos Street store, both volunteers and customers were there to serenade Wendy as she closed the doors for her last time.

“I will miss all our fantastic helpers, and our customers, but it is time to move on”, she said.

“I am very proud of what I have done here, but I didn’t do it alone, the team came with me.”

The Salvation Army’s Peter Hall said that Wendy had been so appreciated among the charity volunteers and that he wished to “convey his sincere gratitude for her dedication and service to the community”.

Wendy will remain in Gunnedah but is excited to do some travelling.

“We have the van loaded and ready to take off on our adventures,” she said as the door closed for the last time as a Salvation Army store.

Gunnedah’s Salvation Army store plans to reopen mid-May after the rebranding to a Salvos Store is complete.

Wendy packs up the shop open sign at Salvation Army Family Store, Gunnedah, for the final time.
