The Gunnedah Red Devils secured their first victory of the Central North Rugby season by defeating the Inverell Highlanders with a decisive score of 36-19.
The Gunnedah forward pack demonstrated exceptional prowess, dominating the scrums and lineouts and impressing the crowd with their well-coordinated plays.
This strategic advantage allowed the forwards to score four out of the five tries.
Prop Lachie McArthur showcased his strength with a remarkable try, charging five metres and breaking through six defenders to score.
Number 8 Will Burke, one of the team’s top try scorers this season, added two tries in a similar display of power and agility.
Tom McGowen, who transitioned from second row to front row this year, highlighted his improved skills by scoring with a pick-and-drive from behind the ruck. The team’s halfback, Daniel Rorke, also contributed to the scoreboard with a try.
In addition to the forwards’ efforts, Leo Mortimer, returning after a hiatus due to injury, was a standout performer. Mortimer successfully kicked five conversions which included a penalty goal, significantly contributing to the team’s overall score.
Inverell reserve grade forfeited to Gunnedah due to limited player availability.
