Experience a vibrant celebration of cultures from around the world by joining the Multicultural Women’s Association for its annual Multicultural Festival on Saturday at the Gunnedah Town Hall! Enjoy live music, dance performances, delicious international cuisine, and a variety of cultural displays. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn, celebrate, and connect with the diverse community.

There will be plenty of cultural performances including the Suara Indonesia professional dance group from Sydney who were invited and sponsored by the Gunnedah Conservatorium. The group will bring an energetic mix of dance, body percussion and song unparalleled by any other performance group in Australia. Their stay in Gunnedah will include workshops in schools today and tomorrow before bringing the lessons to the community on Saturday.

Johan Quezada from Latin Dance for Country Towns will debut at the festival and be providing a free interactive dance workshop.

As always, the local community members are eager to share their culture with everyone. Featured on stage will be cultural performances from Ori Tahiti, Fiji, Philippines and include groups such as Indonesian Gunnedah Band, local community singers, Elysian dancers and Mary Ranken Kids.

Returning again this year is MWA’s fashion parade but with a twist. The fashions will be incorporated into the performances as participants take the stage in their national costumes. Join in on the fashion and cultural atmosphere by wearing national clothing (some may even don their favourite Aussie wears).

If slowing down to appreciate arts and crafts are more to the reader’s style, there will be multiple workshops ready to go. This includes Japanese origami, Mozambique African hair design, Fiji/ Tahiti coconut scraping, Indian henna along with some free food tasting at certain country’s tables and face painting.

There will be plenty of food vendors at the event including Kebab n Go, Indian, Chinese, Korean, Philippines and Dellapenyas Creation for desserts.
