Senseless vandals targeted Gunnedah Golf Club at the weekend causing damage in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Golf club general manager Paul Sills said at about 1.30am on Saturday three golf carts were stolen from secured premises at the club – one was dumped destroyed by fire at the corner of Hopedale Avenue and Bando Street. Two other carts were recovered and were in police custody for forensic examination.

Golf club patrons said locks were also cut on another half dozen golf carts parked securely on the grounds. Other golf equipment was also stolen including golf clubs located on one of the vehicles.

Mr Sills said it is not the first time the club has been targeted – the club’s workshop compound was also broken into about 12 months ago.

It is believed at least one other Gunnedah business was targeted on the same night last weekend. The business was contacted for comment.

The Gunnedah Times also approached Gunnedah police for comment.

This golf cart stolen from the Gunnedah Golf Club was later discovered destroyed by fire at the corner of Bando Street and Hopedale Avenue. It was one of several carts and other equipment targeted in senseless acts of vandalism across Gunnedah last weekend.
