This year, Gunnedah Baptist Community Preschool is celebrating 50 years of service to the families of Gunnedah.
The Preschool was officially opened on June 22, 1974 and was located in the former hall of the Gunnedah Baptist Church, with 20 children enrolled. In 1975, an additional room was added to the former hall, allowing 40 children to attend each day.
The Gunnedah Baptist Child Care Association Limited was formed in 1986 with an inaugural board of directors. In 1998, the new extension was completed, and the original classroom was converted to office space.
In 2017, the preschool expanded again with the construction of a new room, accommodating 20 more children.
A number of renovations have taken place over the last four years with one more extension planned this year.
In addition to the fully upgraded buildings, the large newly modified accessible outdoor area provides a safe, fun filled environment for children of all abilities.
The Gunnedah Baptist Community Preschool is a registered three-unit Early Childhood Educational Service that caters for 60 children per day between the ages of three and five years.
The Preschool recognises that each child is an individual with special abilities interests and background.
A team of 18 well-trained, deeply committed staff take pride in their profession and believe that caring for the children and preparing them for life is a tremendous privilege.
Current board chairperson, Robert Griffith, is hoping that many former students, staff and board members from the last 50 years will join in the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Gunnedah Town Hall on Sunday, August 25, commencing at 2pm.
Robert considers it a great privilege to be part of this incredible vision which began in the hearts of a handful of people so long ago.
During the past 50 years, thousands of children and hundreds of staff have embraced that vision and become part of the wonderful legacy of Gunnedah Baptist Community Preschool.
