Fifty-one years of friendship and fund-raising for disadvantaged youth was celebrated by Gunnedah Day VIEW Club members and guests at a luncheon meeting last Friday.

Local members were joined by visitors from Tamworth Peel VIEW Club, Tamworth Evening and Day VIEW Clubs and Gunnedah Evening, with members also travelling from Manilla.

VIEW national councillor Aletia Norman presented an overview of what is happening in District NI01, with the new zone banner used for the first time. Zone councillor Mary Hollingworth read a hilarious poem which had the women ‘in stitches’. The two councillors then cut the celebratory birthday cake, as three members entertained the group with singing.

VIEW Clubs operate under the umbrella of The Smith Family charity, supporting the Learning for Life program, with Gunnedah Day VIEW Club now sponsoring the education of five pupils living in disadvantage.

At the end of this year, members will see one of their students graduate from Year 12, an achievement that may not have been possible without the sponsorship.
