Pictured is the original Milliwindi Church (Manilla, NSW) which featured the meticulously restored stain glass window created in memory of two World War I veterans.

The Gunnedah Times recently published a story about the window’s recent reconstruction by Gunnedah Woodworkers Club.

The window was originally built in the early 1900s in memory of two soldiers from the area, Private Lesley Watts and Private Bert Watts.

After being recovered from the church decades later, it sat in storage until recently returned to its former glory at the beckon of Elaine and Kel Archibald from Gunnedah.

Kel said this photograph of Milliwindi Church was taken in 1984, about the same time that the stain glass window was extracted for safe-keeping.

As fate would have it, the church was later destroyed by fire.

The stain glass window, which the Archibalds recovered and had restored, is pictured in the centre of the wall on the right hand side of the church. Other windows were also extracted, with at least one believed to be located in Sydney.

The Archibalds have since donated their restored window to the local museum in Manilla.
