“Carroll feels like it is at the back end of council [priorities], Emerald Hill too,” a resident said.
That sentence summed up the feelings of people attending the Carroll Special Rate Variation community information session on Tuesday at the community hall.
Less than 20 were at the session, including Gunnedah Shire Council staff.
While no one wanted the proposed SRV, many of the voices in the room seemed to understand why the council had proposed it. Even more felt that Carroll falls short of council’s attention, with issues that have been waiting
decades for resolution, continuing to be pushed back.
Many stated that whenever money was allocated to Carroll, an issue would rear its head elsewhere and the village would lose those funds.
Ratepayers came with particular issues, such as trees obstructing views onto the highway and the public toilets which were described as being “held together by paint”.
Outgoing Gunnedah shire mayor Jamie Chaffey was among council staff who spoke with people at the session.
More details about the Carroll information session to come in next week’s edition of the Gunnedah Times.
