This year’s AgQuip Rodeo features a full program of steer wrestling, team roping, bareback, saddle bronc, bull ride, breakaway, and barrel racing.

Rodeo convenor Jessica Norton said entries are “rolling in” for next week’s event on Wednesday, August 21.

Norton said it will feature the “best in Australia” including top ranked bull rider, Thomas Hudson.

“Current Australian number one, Thomas Hudson, is seeking redemption after finishing runner-up in 2023. Having won at the Gunnedah Show, earlier this year, Hudson is eager to reclaim his title on the familiar grounds next week,” Norton said.

Run by Gunnedah Show Society and affiliated with the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft & Rodeo Association, it will also feature veteran Australian Bareback title contender, Dee Heinemann.

“He is on the hunt for his 11th Australian Bareback title but faces tough competition from Yass cowboy Brendan Crawley,” Norton said.

“In the Ladies barrel race, spectators can expect a heated showdown between Moree’s Wendy Caban and Tamworth’s Katina Mathews and Katie Vohland.”

Norton said also part of the event will be junior bull riders and barrel racers.

Adding to the evening will be a special musical performance by Tamworth-based music artist, Sarah Head.

Food trucks and a fully stocked bar will be available. Gates open 4pm with the main event starting at 5.30pm.

Tickets can be purchased at the gates, adults $20, children $10 and children under 5 are free entry.
