It’s been 20 years since a timed event has been included at the Gunnedah Ag Quip Rodeo. The mid-week rodeo didn’t deter competitors with 185 entries and more than $20,000 prizemoney paid over 11 events.
The women were fast in the timed events on the cattle furnished by Heath Nichols. Tamworth cowgirl Jody Young set the pace in the Steer Undecortating with a 1.98-second run.
Former North Queensland cowgirl and now Tamworth resident Katie Vohland is cementing her lead in the national standings when she stopped the clocks at 1.9 sec to take the win in the Ladies Breakaway Roping.
She also rounded out the placings in the Ladies Barrel Race. Katina Mathews and her stallion Filthy Rich n Famous backed up her win at the Gunnedah Show Rodeo with another at the Ag Quip Rodeo.
Two-time Australian champion, Coonabarabran cowboy Glen Chape won the steer wrestling with a 4.95. Jock Bone Langdon from Singleton won the rope and tie on a 10.30. Tamworth cowboys Adam Maher and Jackson Clark stopped the clock at 6.5 to take the win in the Team Roping.
The rough stock were contracted by Greg Gibson (Manilla), Mitch Russell (Maitland) and Fitzsimmons Bros (Branxton).
Yass Cowboy Brendan Crawley marked 80 points to win the Bareback in front of Gunnedah local Dee Heinemann who was second.
Ben Rasmussen scored 76 points to win the Saddle Bronc ride ahead of Josh Barnett (singleton) and Brody Cummins (Tamworth).
Talented junior Cowboy Bailey Searle (Willow Tree) won the junior Bull Ride. Clint Glass (Quirindi) was the only Cowboy to make the eight seconds in the Open Bull Ride.
