Senior lifeguard Cameron McFarlane has handed in his keys and after six years is leaving the pool deck to follow his passion teaching CPR in schools and assisting others in the community to learn this life saving skill.
The popular pool attendant was farewelled at the Railway Hotel last week, with his parents, daughter Sienna and partner Margaret joining former pool attendants and regular pool patrons for an informal luncheon in the function room.
Cam is looking forward to expanding his NSW Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) program further south targeting Bathurst, Orange, Wagga and other centres which he had only visited once before during his eight-week NSW state tour in 2016.
“I will also be helping out with PKS Pool Care in my down time in Tamworth,” Cam said.
“PKS has kindly provided a car, fuel and advertising materials in support and sponsoring of the NSW CPR program. On top of that I will continue my work with the Royal Life Saving Society in running CPR, First Aid, lifeguarding education and mandatory teacher CPR/anaphylaxis qualifications.
“I will also be very active across the state lobbying and promoting the importance of CPR education through the schools, Department of Education, Parliament and the community after experiencing six major CPR incidents myself and realising how important this vital but simple skill is.”
Cam expressed his appreciation to everyone who had supported him over the years and made his job so enjoyable, while the regular pool patrons are saddened that he is leaving but wished him every success and happiness in his new venture.
