Gunnedah and District AFC’s Junior Pups have tasted premiership success early in their AFL careers, completing a double premiership victory for the club in their respective under 12s and under 14s competitions.
Held at Tamworth’s Bicentennial, Number 1 oval, the junior grand final day saw a dominance from the mixed junior Bulldogs pups in both grades.
Joining forces with the Tamworth Roosters for the season, the Pups were dominant in their respective grand finals, particularly influential was the Gunnedah representation in the Under 12s division, where the Pups proceeded to not only win, but dominate the match from start to finish and claim the inaugural, Under 12s shield by a commanding 49 points, 63-14, against the New England Nomads.
Josh Spinks starred for the side in the midfield, booting five majors on the day, and was also honoured as the best on ground from the officiating umpires on the day, for his efforts at not only hitting the scoreboard off his own boot, but supplying numerous opportunities for fellow team mates.
Of those team mates, half forward Zac Tunbridge slotted two majors as the other multiple scorer, whilst Jake Barrow and Jack Wright also slotted majors on the day.
In the Under 14s, Gunnedah was less represented in the Tamworth/Gunnedah merger, but still had sufficient influence on the match, as they ran out comprehensive victors. Kayla Poss, Mea Woolaston, Lachie Edmunds, Josie Knapman, Katie Spinks, Josh Spinks – backing up from 12s’ duty – all contributed to the victory over Inverell 14s, representing the Gunnedah as premiership players.
