Fun, laughter and joyous singing filled the Gunnedah Band Hall as 140 women of all ages gathered to celebrate She Sings with former Gunnedah musician Lucy Amos (now Ravenwood) leading on vocals and piano.

Guests were greeted with a glass of bubbles on arrival and a sumptuous grazing table provided by The Verdict and then it was time to let loose all inhibitions to belt out ‘What’s Going on?’ and many other favourites.

From ABBA to Neil Diamond and around the world to Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York, which had several women up front demonstrating the high kicks with linked arms.

Supported by Gunnedah’s own Alison Stuart, singing a string of old favourites along with violinist Keely Murphy and up and coming musicians, Lucy’s repertoire of songs was incredible.

Local charity Can Assist was the beneficiary of the raffle tickets sold on the night along with a percentage of the ticket price. Can Assist supports local cancer patients with expenses as they receive treatment in major cities.

The evening closed with a medley of great songs released over the years and everyone left on a high with calls to repeat the night again soon.

Lucy was born and bred in Gunnedah, the daughter of Margaret and David Amos. She grew up with music in her life and went on to complete a degree in (Marketing and Management) at UNE.

Lucy’s life’s path eventually took her to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, where she lives with her husband and family, and works in the Tourism and Major Events division in Economic Development at Sunshine Coast Council.

But with music still her passion, Lucy developed the concept of gathering women together for a great night of singing and friendship under the banner, She Sings, which has become very popular across the Sunshine Coast and beyond.

“We don’t sing enough in our lives,” she told the gathering and She Sings is the night out you didn’t know you needed.

Jenny Mackenzie, who lives on the Sunshine Coast, but often travels to the She Sings performances. Jenny has family in Boggabri and brought everyone along to the Gunnedah performance including her 98-year-old mother-in-law.
