Boggabri Rotary Club’s Small Schools Public Speaking Competition

Boggabri Sacred Heart School was abuzz with excited children as principal, Mrs Claire Ryan welcomed participants to the school and the 27th Annual Small Schools Public Speaking Competition.

“We are excited to again host this wonderful community event, offering an opportunity for our children to plan and prepare a speech to share in a larger forum,” Mrs Ryan said.

“It also enables children from across these small schools an opportunity to connect and network, hopefully building new friendships or rekindling old ones that have already started.”

One hundred and twenty-seven students from Sacred Heart School, Boggabri Public School, Curlewis Public School, Fairfax Public School, Mullaley Public School and Premer Public School along with their teachers, parents and family members were welcomed to the competition.

Boggabri Rotary Club were the sponsors of the event and provided the volunteer adjudicators and timekeepers on the day.

The adjudicators were Margaret Amos, Meryl Hennessy, Ben Hennessy and Julie Glover.

The adjudicators travelled from Gunnedah and the Central Coast to provide encouragement and effective feedback to the children.

The timekeepers were Malcolm Donaldson, Phillip Haire, Robyn Skillen and Noreen Boehm.

Even though the Boggabri Rotary Club has only 11 members they have sponsored this competition for 27 years.

They provided a sausage sandwich for students, staff, parents, and visitors on the day, as well as the trophies and book prizes that were presented at the end of the competition.

Sacred Heart PTF members ran the coffee van and had delicious cakes, slices and scones for sale.

Mrs Jenny Darley and Ms Robyn Traynor spent many hours behind the scenes co-ordinating the event and making sure that the day ran like a well-oiled machine.
