Boggabri Public School students and staff presented their whole of school concert, the ‘Stars of Boggabri’ to a capacity crowd.
Year five student Lachlan Stone was an outstanding host.
Lachlan said, “I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to the show which is on Aboriginal land. We are so lucky to perform on this beautiful country, and our concert is inspired by the Stars that shine brightly each night, in our big Gamilaroi sky.
“All 97 students at Boggabri public have enjoyed putting this concert together. We are 39 kilometers from Gunnedah, 477 kilometers from Sydney, 17000 kilometers from Paris where the Olympics was held this year, and 384,400 kilometers from Boggabri to the moon. We are a small school doing big things in the galaxy.”
Star trekking across the universe aroused the audience immediately, prior to the littlest stars from kindergarten and year one performing ‘The Rocket’.
Lachlan told those present, “the universe is vast, it includes time itself, the earth and moon and planets, matter and energy, and man’s imagination runs wild with notions of other forms of life”.
This set the scene for students to present their prepared speeches from the recent small school’s public speaking competition.
Macie Mackenzie had the audience spell bound as she delivered her prepared speech titled ‘Monster’.
A very confident Harrison Marshall had everyone on the edge of their seats as he told his story of ‘Hairy Toe’.
It must have been monster season as Hunter Berding found something weird in his laundry. It turned out to be a Martian in the Laundry.
Year 1-2 performed ‘Scooby Doo’ much to the delight of the audience.
Continuing with drama, a drama duo poem called ‘Airport’ was performed by Dougie Watson and Lachlan Stone. The boys were to perform it at the eisteddfod this year but due to illness they did not have the opportunity. The end brought peals of laughter and clapping.
A poem by Emerson Marshall and a rap by Theo Dawson and Tom Beckett from Miss Ward’s class 1 / 2 was well received.
A very cute ‘Alien’ arrived in the playground, as class 3-4 explored the notion of what would happen if a strange creature came to earth and landed in the middle of the playground. This was a self-devised piece that they workshopped in drama class.
The lively performance rock and roll by K-1 had everyone tapping their toes prior to the senior students dancing to ‘Shooting Star’.
A small group of students were accompanied by Mr Dominic Goodwin from the Gunnedah Conservatorium as they performed ‘Universes Daughter’.
Miss Reynolds led a ‘Sign Language’ item, a musical item to the hit song ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry.
The finale saw the whole school on stage for ‘A sky full of stars.’
