UPDATED:
Just after 10am on Wednesday, October 16, an Essential Energy spokesperson said customers in Gunnedah were affected by an unplanned power interruption following a fault on the electrical network being detected.
“To keep the community safe, network equipment operated automatically, isolating the power to approximately 1265 homes and businesses,” the spokesperson said.
“Crews were dispatched immediately to Hamilton Street, completing the necessary repairs enabling power to be restored to all customers by 10.48am.
“Essential Energy thanks customers for their patience and reminds everyone to stay at least eight metres away from fallen powerlines or damaged electricity equipment and report to Essential Energy immediately on 13 20 80 or call Triple-0 if the situation is life threatening.”

Parts of Gunnedah experienced a blackout while rain fell on Wednesday morning.
According to the Essential Energy website, 1265 customers were affected from Lincoln Street to the Gunnedah CBD just after 10am.
A number of businesses were affected in Conadilly Street, while the town’s traffic lights stopped working for a brief period.
The number of affected customers was down to 54 just after 11am, as the main impacted area included parts of George Street, Edward Street and Hamilton Street.
The original reason for the outage was stated as “powerlines down”, before the reason was later changed to “damaged equipment”.
