Gunnedah recorded an 88-run victory against Coonabarabran in a high school girls cricket match at the Gunnedah-based Donnelly Fields on Monday.
Marnee Walters excelled in this round one North West girls knockout cricket fixture, as she was Gunnedah’s highest scorer and leading wicket-taker.
The home side lost two early wickets before Walters took control, hitting 11 fours in her knock of 68 not out.
At one stage, six of Walters’s successive scoring strokes were boundaries.
Mackenzie Keeler found the boundary three times in her 33, while Gunnedah also received 25 runs in wides and no-balls in its total of 4-141 in 20 overs.
The bulk of Coonabarabran’s 53-run total came from sundries, as the team lost six wickets while batting out the overs.
Rebecca Partridge bowled one of Coonabarabran’s openers, and there were two run-outs while Walters captured 3-3 from three overs as her victims were bowled.
Walters struck in her first over, and captured wickets from successive balls in her second over.
Charlette Keeler and Chelsea Budden also had very economical figures.
