Gunnedah was well represented at the Fiesta la Peel, when women from the town represented their culture.

The festival held in the Tamworth Bicentennial Park brought together music, performances, stalls, art and food from all around the world with more than 1000 people in attendance.

Owner of Gunnedah’s Polynesian Dance Fitness and winner of the Cultural Achievement Award in the Gunnedah Australia Day ceremony Agnes Kin Thurston (Tahitian/Fijian) danced with Katerina Haenga (Maori).

They performed “Hoi Mai Taputaputea” followed by a quick workshop where the audience could learn Tahitian Dance.

Katerina also performed “Paikea”, which is an action song originally from the Ngati Porou tribe of New Zealand.

Multicultural Women’s Association treasurer Yee Ling also served up Malaysian food from Gunny Kitchen to event-goers.
