Rotary Club of Gunnedah West recently held its annual golf day adding to the 27-year history which has contributed $110,000 to charities and mental health research.
It was first held on Monday, August 4, 1997, when it was scheduled for a bank holiday weekend.
Proceeds from the golf days were donated to a variety of charity recipients.
Following the tragic death by suicide in 2003 of the club’s president Ian Carrington, the club provided a trophy that would be known as the Ian Carrington Memorial Perpetual Trophy.
The Australian Rotary Health Fund, in support of mental health research, received $3000 from the club.
Ian Carrington was a highly respected Gunnedah businessman and a true gentleman, and in 2012, the club adopted a standing order that 50 per cent of the profit from the golf day would support mental health research, through donating to the fund.
Since its beginning, the golf day has contributed over $110,000 to charitable distributions and has seen $30,000 being donated to Australian Rotary Health: Mental Health Research.
Rotary Club of Gunnedah West would like to thank the sponsors and donors, who continue to support the club in upholding Ian’s memory and continue its pledge to donate money to mental health research.
