A group of Gunnedah High School aboriginal students will today visit local business Many Fabrication and Engineering for a career immersion program.

Organised by the Regional Industry Education Partnership program, the one-day program aims to ignite student interest in metal fabrication and engineering careers.

Students will gain first-hand experience as they observe professional tradespeople and learn about the industry through tours and discussion sessions.

Teacher wage rise

Public school teachers across the state have voted to accept the NSW Government’s three-year award agreement.

The agreement will mean the state’s 95,000 public school teacher workforce will receive a three per cent pay increase annually for the next three years. The deal includes protection against high inflation through annual $1000 cost of living adjustments if inflation exceeds 4.5 percent.

It will also include opportunities for job-sharing, part-time employment as well as full-time and part-time leave without pay where requested.

NSW Teachers Federation president Henry Rajendra said the agreement begins to address the unmanageable workloads that have driven resignation rates above retirement rates and exacerbated the teacher shortage crisis.
