Police are searching for the owner of a motorcycle seized during a traffic stop in Gunnedah yesterday.

At 11.30am on Thursday, October 31, a 19-year-old Gunnedah man was observed riding an unregistered motorcycle without a helmet. Police attempted to stop the man however he refused.

In doing so, it is alleged he failed to stop at a stop sign. The man has ridden to a Rodney Street address where after a short foot pursuit he was apprehended in Bridge Street, Gunnedah.

The 19-year-old was placed under arrest and taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he was charged with unlicensed for class of vehicle, rider not wear approved helmet, use unregistered vehicle, use uninsured motor vehicle, not stop at stop sign and not comply with direction given by police. The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Gunnedah Local Court in December, 2024.

The motorcycle has been seized by police as enquiries failed to confirm an owner.

The bike is described as a blue and white Yamaha YZ450. Anyone information that may assist in identifying the owner is asked to contact Gunnedah Police on 6742 9099.

If persons who believe the motorcycle is their own, will have to provide information that will satisfy police of ownership.
