The team at Gunnedah Workshop Enterprises has been busy at work for National Recycling Week (November 11-17).

Established by Planet Ark in 1996, the annual event helps to keep valuable materials out of landfill to benefit the environment.

Since its introduction almost 30 years ago, the recycling rate in Australia has increased from just 7 per cent of all disposed materials to more than 60 per cent.

But there is still room for improvement, as research shows almost three in four (73 per cent) Australians believe they are doing enough to increase recycling rates in their own home, despite municipal solid waste remaining a significant contributor to overall waste levels.

Maree Clare from Gunnedah Recyclit Waste Management Facility said the workshop team’s contribution not only supports a sustainable future, it also provides meaningful employment for people with disability.
