The full upgrade of Gunnedah Hospital remains in limbo despite a $415,000 pledge last week from the NSW government to fund upgrades at the Tamworth Hospital campus.

The funding is part of the NSW Government’s $12 million investment in 61 projects under the Regional Health Minor Works Program.

The upgrades include $165,000 for a purpose-built, accessible bathroom at Johnston House for patients, their families and carers attending community health appointments.

Patients in the cardiac unit and those undergoing exercise-based rehabilitation will also benefit from a $250,000 funding boost for upgraded flooring, acoustic improvements, and reverse cycle air conditioning.

Meanwhile, the promised renal and chemotherapy services as part of the ongoing Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment are still yet to be funded.

The services were among a raft of changes made last year under a “revised scope” for the new Gunnedah Hospital masterplan.

The Gunnedah community was told that services were dropped from the new build due to escalating building costs.

The NSW Government has committed $53 million to redevelop Gunnedah Hospital.
