A fine spell of bowling from Gunnedah’s Andrew Kelly was in vain as Bective East won a heavily one-sided third grade cricket match at Kitchener Park last Saturday.

The hosts succumbed for just 44 runs in 12.1 overs in the run chase, after the visitors amassed 296 runs in their 40 overs upon being sent in to bat.

The second half of Bective East’s innings featured the bulk of the run glut, after Gunnedah kept the run rate in check in the first 20 overs.

As the second opening bowler, Kelly did not concede a run until the fourth ball of his fifth over.

Three boundaries and a single were the only scoring strokes in Kelly’s eight overs, as he was impressively tight despite not claiming a wicket.

Bective East was merely 1-29 after 10 overs before progressing to 3-80 at the 20-over mark.

Fifteen runs in the 22nd over were followed by 17 in the 23rd, before 16 in the 30th took the total to 4-173.

The final three overs cost 49 runs, while three Bective East players finished with half-centuries.

Kelly was adjudged lbw from the second ball of Gunnedah’s innings, before Mitch Rolinson opened the scoring with a six from the next ball.

Rolinson also cleared the boundary in the third over but then the wickets tumbled.

Five of Gunnedah’s batters were bowled, two were lbw, one skied a catch to the wicketkeeper and two lofted a catch into the covers.

Rolinson made 15 but none of his teammates passed five, while the 13 sundries included eight byes.

All five Bective East bowlers shared the wickets, with two of them taking 1-0 after Aaron Hyslop needed only one delivery to capture the final wicket.

Bective East 5-296 (Steven Clydsdale 88 not out, Ryan Griffiths 64 not out, Paul Lawrence 64) defeated Gunnedah 44 (Aidan Walker 4-17, Georgia Davidson 3-16) by 252 runs.
