The sibling duo of Tyler and Millie Small guided Gunnedah to a nail-biting one-wicket victory against Narrabri in last Sunday’s U13 representative cricket match at Collins Park.

The George Denton Shield contest was a low-scoring thriller, as the hosts tallied 64 runs before the visitors collapsed to 9-53 and were in danger of defeat until the Small siblings came to the rescue.

Only one player from each team reached double figures, with Narrabri opener Blair Lennox making 15 before Harry Langdon made 18 at second drop for Gunnedah.

Sundries top-scored for both teams, with Narrabri’s innings including 27 extras before Gunnedah’s innings had 19.

Six players from each team were bowled, and four of Narrabri’s batters were caught before Gunnedah’s innings featured a catch, a run out and an lbw.

On a wild and windy day, Narrabri reached 0-13 before wickets fell regularly as Gunnedah’s bowlers often bowled a very tight line.

Owen Rixon was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while Coen Gough had two, and five bowlers nabbed one scalp each as Narrabri lasted 25.3 overs.

The visitors were in early trouble at 2-7 before a 34-run partnership seemingly had Gunnedah on top.

A run-out changed the momentum as seven wickets fell for just 12 runs, leaving Gunnedah needing a last-wicket partnership of 12 after Narrabri had had a final wicket stand of 13.

A boundary to Tyler took the total to 9-59, before the siblings scored a two each amid incredible tension.

A no-ball levelled the scores before Tyler hit the winning run from the fourth legitimate ball of the 16th over.

Gunnedah will play another away game this Sunday, as the team goes head-to-head with Coalfields.

Gunnedah 9-65 (Harry Langdon 18; Jonty O’Connor 4-12, Archie Greenaway 2-8) defeated Narrabri 64 (Blair Lennox 15; Owen Rixon 3-12, Coen Gough 2-2) by one wicket.
