More than 30 Gunnedah junior athletes progressed to the next level after starring at last Saturday’s zone athletics carnival in Tamworth.

Gunnedah’s junior and senior relay teams qualified for the regionals in Maitland – to be held in February 2025 – along with numerous individuals who achieved a top-four placing.

Gunnedah’s junior boys and senior girls relay teams placed first at the carnival in Tamworth, while Gunnedah’s junior girls and senior boys relay teams were runners-up.

The junior boys had a time of 59.42 seconds, while the time for the senior girls was 56.33.

The junior girls had a time of 1:03.40, while the time for the senior boys was 57.59.

While Gunnedah’s U7s weren’t eligible to progress to regional level, many of them earned medals last weekend.

As more than 50 Gunnedah athletes competed in Tamworth last weekend while the club was represented from U7 to U17 level, the athletes showed impressive determination, commitment and sportsmanship as they toiled away in hot conditions.
