Gunnedah’s second grade cricketers sustained a first-innings defeat but had little trouble avoiding outright defeat in the two-day cricket contest with the North Tamworth Redbacks at Belmore Park.

North Tamworth declared at 9-299 in its first innings in response to Gunnedah’s 143, and then the visiting team made 2-82 off 22 overs in its second innings before the game was called off early.

The Redbacks began last Saturday at 2-44 while Chris Dobson was on 21, before Dobson struck a heap of boundaries on his way to 151.

Phillip and Max Judd also hit regular boundaries as they made 30s, and Sam Holt reached 12 with a six before he was bowled next ball which prompted the declaration.

After finishing with the best bowling figures for Gunnedah, Jaycob Price opened the batting and found the boundary eight times in his 36.

Jayden Winsor hit four fours in his 22 before departing with the score on 70, and then Bevan Flanagan’s seven not out included a six.

As opener, Josh Green registered two fours in his 11 not out.

North Tamworth 9-299 declared (Chris Dobson 151; Jaycob Price 3-52) defeated Gunnedah 143 (Braith Winsor 42; Hamish Batley 2-23, Mitch McCormack 2-24) and 2-82 (Jaycob Price 36; Jock Smith 2-32) on the first innings.
