The Gunnedah Garden Club ended its year with a bus trip to Quirindi, visiting a couple of “lovely” and even “quirky” gardens according to the club.
The first was Braefield, hosted by Ray and Susan Bastian, where members stopped for morning tea before wandering around the garden. With ponds, little sheds full of curiosities and even a museum, they said the garden was certainly a delight to see.
Next was Bob’s Shed for a barbeque lunch and a wonder around all the vintage collectables, recognising many items used from the members own childhood. Bathurst enthusiasts loved the cars and Brocky collection.

Guests moved along to some retail therapy at Rustic Antiques before visiting another garden, hosted by Mark and Wendy Ferry. It was filled with lots of gazebos, shady trees, flowers and a lovely lawn – all watered from the bore.
On Monday, November 25, the club enjoyed a festive Christmas lunch at the Railway Hotel, where the winners of the Annual Flower and Fruit and Vegetable Competition received their prizes.
Shirley Palmer was a fan of Brocky.
Life member Elaine Bridge spoke about the significance of the Poinsettia and Carol Smith read a lovely poem of friendship. Shirley Hall won the raffle and donations were collected for the Christmas Bowl. Which charity to receive the proceeds will be decided in the new year. For now, the Gunnedah Garden Club will go into recess until February, as Australia Day falls on the fourth Monday in January. The club wished readers a Merry Christmas and happy gardening during the holidays!
