Undefeated half-centuries to Zac and Curtis Parkinson propelled South Tamworth to an eight-wicket thrashing of Gunnedah in last Saturday’s fourth grade cricket contest at Carroll Community Ground.

A largely youthful Gunnedah line-up was dismissed for 143 in 36 overs, before the opposition romped home with 61 balls to spare.

Jack Canham top-scored for Gunnedah with 30 off 53 balls, and was first out with the total on 63 in the 17th over.

Shiran Ranasinghe’s dismissal left Gunnedah 2-74 after 20 overs, before Ryan Cooper blasted 28 runs off just 14 balls.

Angus Johns’s stoic 26 off 78 balls ended in the 25th over, before another wicket from the next ball made the score 4-97.

Cooper exited in the 27th over after hitting the previous ball for four, and skipper Jono Middlebrook’s 24 off 24 balls ended in the 32nd over.

Gunnedah had wasted four overs after the final three wickets fell in the space of four balls.

Souths used 10 bowlers, with Jackson McDonald the standout before skipper Chris Skilton polished off the tail.

Canham impressed with the ball for Gunnedah as he took 1-29 from eight overs, while Ed Martin conceded only 11 runs in his five overs.

Souths was 2-49 after 15 overs before the Parkinson brothers polished off the remaining 95 runs in a little under 15 overs, with Curtis overtaking Zac in the dying stages.

Curtis’s 56 not out off 49 balls included five fours, while opener Zac’s 53 not out off 83 balls included three fours.

South Tamworth 2-144 (Curtis Parkinson 56 not out, Zac Parkinson 53 not out; Ryan Cooper 1-7) defeated Gunnedah 143 (Jack Canham 30; Jackson McDonald 4-26, Chris Skilton 2-2) by eight wickets.
