Last year for the Gunnedah March ‘Weeks of Speed’ Festival, the Gunnedah Motoring Enthusiasts (GME) hosted part of the MG Car Club national meeting with a motorkhana and sprint events, which brought thousands of tourism dollars to the region.

This year GME is focusing on giving locals the opportunity to participate as an individual or family in grassroots motorsport.

A fun afternoon for young and old will be on Sunday March 2, as a Showgrounds Gravel Motorkhana takes place.

This non-speed event features a series of witches hats’ obstacles, with point score calculated and time recorded to test driver skills and provide driver education.

Local business sponsorship has come on board, with entrants able to compete for $25 which will include introductory license, event entry fee and GME annual membership.

On Saturday March 22, GME will participate in a new initiative of the Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce: a ‘Meet the Speed’ function at Club Gunnedah where all participants in the ‘Weeks of Speed’ Festival are invited to put forward what they are about.

There will also be a panel discussion.

GME through Gunnedah Connections is able to have ‘Extreme GTR’ at the inaugural ‘Meet the Speed’ function.

Extreme GTR will come to Gunnedah compliments of team owners Michele and Mark Guyer.

A beautiful vehicle recently voted overwhelmingly as the people’s choice award at Sydney Motorsport Park has broken multiple records at ‘World Time Attack’, and also set records at Wakefield Park and Wanneroo Raceway (Western Australia).

On Sunday March 23, Gunnedah Aerodrome will host the GME 1/2mile (804m) single vehicle sprints with a new format of flying 500 to be conducted, rolling start at 40 kmh over 500m.
