A classy undefeated century from opening batter Matt Everett put Bective East in a commanding position on day one of the two-day first grade cricket clash with Gunnedah at Wolseley Park.
Bective East finished last Saturday on 5-327 from 80 overs, with Everett unbeaten on 170.
Gunnedah’s Nick Millar bowled a fine opening spell but luck eluded him, as a slips catch was put down.
Abel Carney contributed 28 to an opening stand of 74 before skying a catch to Ateeq-ur Rahman off Andrew Osmond, and the second wicket fell to a run-out.
Ben Taylor was Osmond’s second scalp as Millar held a catch, leaving Bective East 3-106 before 203 runs were added for the fourth wicket.
Bective East skipper Jye Paterson was just one run shy of a century when he hit a catch to opposing skipper Andy Mack at a straightish mid-wicket position off the bowling of Kyle Gallen.
The fifth wicket fell just before stumps, as Justin Carter held a catch off Lachie Straney.
Gallen bowled the most overs for Gunnedah, taking 1-74 off 20 overs while Richard Avendano delivered seven overs while battling a back injury.
Time will tell if Bective East resumes batting this Saturday, as the visitors no doubt seek to force an outright victory.
Bective East 5-327 (Matt Everett 170 not out, Jye Paterson 99) versus Gunnedah.
