The half-mile vehicle sprints have been rescheduled after they were unable to proceed at the Gunnedah Airport last Sunday, as part of Weeks of Speed.
A ‘meet and greet’ went ahead at the Railway Hotel last Saturday evening, following the news that the following day’s event would not go ahead as planned.
Gunnedah Motoring Enthusiasts (GME) event secretary Geoff Hood said it was unfortunate that GME needed to postpone the half-mile sprint races, following 34mm of rain last Friday afternoon.
“With further weekend showers and storms forecast, (this) meant that quite a few long-distance entrants withdrew,” he said.
Mr Hood said a difficult executives’ decision was made last Saturday morning, with the event likely to take place in a couple of months, “once a clear date can be identified on the motorsport calendar”.
The event secretary said it was a “work in progress to incorporate suggestions of potential competitors that could not attend in March”.
Mr Hood said it could possibly be a two-day format with roll racing on the Saturday, and then single vehicle sprints over half a kilometre and half a mile on the Sunday.
“Several Gunnedah locals with vehicles of Mustang, WRX, Mercedes, Ford FPV, Jeep Trackhawk, Legend Sportscar, Ford Territory and daily driver vehicles are keen on a rescheduled event,” he said.
Expressions of interest are being taken.
