It is Gunnedah Show week (April 4-6) the community has every reason to get excited! With a packed program of competitions, entertainment and family fun, this year’s show is set to be one of the best yet.

From thrilling rodeo action and fast-paced camel racing to impressive pavilion displays showcasing local talent, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at this much-loved annual event.

Gunnedah Show Society’s President Kath Wilkinson said she is particularly excited to see the talented locals shine across various competitions.

“The pavilion exhibits are always a highlight for me,” she said. “The quality of our local art and photography, the skill in the needlework section, and of course, the kids’ school displays, and LEGO creations are fantastic. There’s so much talent in Gunnedah and I love seeing it all come together at the show.”

One of the biggest crowd-pleasers returning this year is the camel racing, after a hugely successful debut in 2024.

“The camel races were so much fun last year! Locals loved watching their friends take part—it was the best thing to see everyone cheering them on,” Kath said. “We knew we had to bring it back!”

Of course, no Gunnedah Show would be complete without the rodeo. With strong entries already rolling in, this year’s event will feature some of the best cowboys and cowgirls, including local kids competing in the steer riding event.

Another much-loved aspect of the show is the junior judging competition, which encourages young people to develop their skills in livestock assessment.

“Last year, we had incredible support from local schools for junior judging, and I can’t wait to welcome them back on Friday,” Kath added.

If you’re looking for great excitement, the main arena is the place to be on Saturday afternoon. The program is jam-packed with six bar showjumping competition, always a thrilling spectacle, mini trotting races, see these tiny dynamos speed around the track and Flair Action Sports showing off their motorcross skills and tricks.

Despite the recent wet weather, the show is full steam ahead with preparations well underway.

“We’ve got a marvellous surface on our main arena, so at this stage, everything is set for yet another fantastic Gunnedah Show!”

With fireworks, whip-cracking, woodchopping, showjumping, livestock displays, sideshow alley, the animal nursery, children’s entertainer and “Fairy La La Land”, the 2025 Gunnedah Show is not to be missed!
