The Gunnedah South Public School senior boys’ relay team broke a long-standing swimming record last week, as the quartet competed in the North West Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) Swimming Championship at Armidale.
Camden Many, Nathan Reeves, Cameron Sills and Quade Young swam 100m each in the relay as they set a time of 2.15.60, eclipsing Tamworth South Public School’s record time of 2.18.90 which dated back to 1979.
The Gunnedah South Public School quartet competed with other swimmers from the North West region, including schools in Armidale, Tamworth, Moree, Boggabri, Narrabri, Inverell, Mudgee, Tenterfield and Glen Innes.
Gunnedah South Public School community liaison officer Candice Rayward said the remarkable achievement highlighted the dedication, teamwork and talent of the school’s senior boys’ relay team.
“The Gunnedah South community has shown strong support, with one comment noting, ‘The boys’ dedication to the sport and each other has been utterly commendable. Well-earned and well deserved’,” she said.
“We are incredibly proud of their hard work and commitment, and this victory will be remembered for years to come.”
The next event for the record-breaking senior boys’ relay team will be the NSWPSSA Swimming State Championships in Homebush on April 10 and 11.
Gunnedah South Public School will also have a range of other swimmers at this event.
