The Gunnedah Garden Club had a busy meeting in March.

The club congratulated Trish Conway for taking on the role of treasurer, with Sue Walker as assistant treasurer. Thanks went to Shirley Palmer for her work over the past five years as treasurer, though she will continue her role with publicity.

The most recent guest speaker was Owen Hasler, board member of Yallambee, who accepted a donation of $500 from the club and gave an informative talk.

Since 1963, this privately-run facility has provided accommodation for low income people aged 55 years and over. It currently offers 13 units as well as an eight-bed hostel for men. With no government funding, it relies on grants and donations to keep operating. Yallambee will use the money given, to put towards one of the many maintenance projects on the agenda.

The club’s calendar for the year is now packed with garden visits and activities.

The big one is its 45th birthday luncheon, hopefully to go ahead in late September.

Next week is the Zone picnic day in Quirindi.

A club member is making a wreath for Anzac Day.

Members of the club were encouraged to participate in the Garden Clubs of Australia photo competition. Mel Thilbault’s garden will have a visit after the club’s next meeting.

The club is set to visit Tim Duddy’s at Caroona next month. The club has decided to make a donation of $200, which will go towards the restoration of the non-denominational sandstone church in Caroona.
