Elly Byriell was delighted to be named the 2025 Gunnedah Show Young Woman Representative.
The Gunnedah local said the recognition would help further the agricultural industry among the next generation.
“I’m very passionate about the ag industry, and personal development,” Ms Byriell said.
“It’s good for the next generation because it will help us become more involved in the agricultural industry.”
Ms Byriell was runner-up in Gunnedah’s 2023 Young Woman standings and stepped up to represent at zone when the other entrant was not available.
Ms Byriell said the show circuit has been of great benefit in many ways.
“It’s good for your public speaking, the personal development was huge, and you meet some very good connections,” she said.
The 2025 winner urged all looking to get a foot in the door in the Young Woman Representative stakes, to have a go.
“I’ll tell everyone to go and do it … and do it a few times, keep doing it, because I’ve grown so much as a person from doing this,” she said.
Young Woman Representative convenor Mel Bartlett praised this year’s entrants, including runner-up, Zoe Ranine.
“It was a good opportunity to have a go … she still did very well,” Ms Bartlett said.
The show convenor was also impressed by the 11-strong junior entrants who nominated this year across two categories – Junior Show Representative (5-9 years) and Young Show Representative (10-14 years).
“Hopefully they follow in the footsteps of the others,” Ms Bartlett said.
“It’s a bit of exposure for them, a bit of public speaking.
“I’m proud they had a go.”
A highlight this year was the nomination of Hugo Chaffey in the Junior Show Representative.
Ms Bartlett said it was important they had the equal opportunity in the contest.
“I thought why not, it’s the same skills,” she said.
The Young Show Representative winner was Esther Maher and runner-up was Lilly Steele.
The Junior Show Representative was Annabelle Goldrick and runner-up was Hugo Chaffey.
