It was a beautiful harmony of country aesthetic provided by Piallaway Hall and the melody of songbirds Amy Vee and Anna Weatherup last Sunday afternoon.
The pair have been touring cities and villages such as Armidale, Tamworth, Baan Baa and Piallaway, thanks to Arts North West.
Amy is no stranger to the North West region, having been raised in Tamworth. The singer and songwriter has two solo studio albums, an EP and several singles.
Anna has seen great success in her music career as a contestant on the second season of The Voice, and has since then performed at live shows and released her album, Crossing the Sea.
Each location on the tour had a guest musical artist, and for the Piallaway concert, it was Goldheist. The musician based in regional NSW has been likened to Kate Bush, Florence & The Machine and Ellie Goulding.
The Piallaway Hall Progress Association members worked hard to ensure the hall was in tip-top shape for a performance by well-loved Australian artists.
The show was also a part of the Gunnedah Conservatorium’s 2025 program.
Director Rebecca Ryan said the musicians were quite taken and amazed with the venue, and congratulated the association on its hospitality.
“From the conservatorium’s point of view, it was lovely working with [them],” she said.
“It was a beautiful day.”
The grounds opened at noon, providing the perfect opportunity for a picnic in the country air before the performance began later in the afternoon.
It gave people a reason to take a small drive from neighbouring towns or see the professional musicians in their village on a Sunday.
Rebecca mentioned the conservatorium has enjoyed working with progress associations to bring live music to more venues that are not just in Gunnedah.
“[Live music] does not just have to be in the CBD,” Rebecca said.
The conservatorium plans to continue bringing live music to areas around the region.
