Gunnedah horse trainer Gavin Groth achieved one victory as he had eight runners at last Saturday’s race meet at Warialda.

Groth’s triumph came in the opening race, while he also had a fourth placing in the same race which contained a field of eight on the track rated a Firm 2.

The Groth-trained and Michael Heagney-ridden Aussie Rebel won the opening race by 0.7 of a length, while the fourth placegetter was the Groth-trained and Hannah Johnston-ridden Gloryess as the distance was 1400m.

It was a breakthrough win for Aussie Rebel, which placed last in a field of 12 in its previous race which featured a Heavy 8 track at Wellington.

Race two was 1170m, with the Groth-trained and Heagney-ridden Showtime Sassy placing second in another field of eight.

Groth had a fifth and a seventh placing in a field of seven for race three, before having a third placing in another field of seven for race four.

Groth went on to have a fifth placing in race five and a seventh placing in race six, before heading to Scone two days later.

On a track rated a Soft 5, the Groth-trained Norman placed eighth out of 13 in race four before Groth’s other entry this day – Fort Jefferson – came last in a field of 14 in race five.

Groth had one entry the next day at an Armidale track rated a Good 4, with Agnodice placing ninth out of 11 in race five.
