The Animal Welfare League (AWL) Gunnedah Branch had a busy few weeks.
Each month the charity holds a garage sale and Easter did not put a pause on Saturday’s plans. That was where this journalist met Mimi, an affectionate tuxedo cat, that assists by lying among the items for sale and receiving pats for payment.
Mimi was found as a kitten, hanging out on a railway line. Do gooders who called her in and volunteers who gave her a home learnt quickly she loves attention.
AWL branch president Linda Taylor is never short of new animals for spectators to coo at. At the garage sale, it was a four-week-old Foxy Jack Russell cross, who was yet to be named.
The charity fundraiser was one of the last opportunities for people to put spare change toward the branch’s Easter raffle. Each dollar adds up to help all the four legged creatures in care.
Aside from fundraising initiatives, branch volunteers and feline friends had also wound down from the previous week’s adoption day.
People found their way into Pets Domain with the promise of whiskered visitors in store.
It was a Cat Adoption Day in conjunction with the store, where the cuddles were free and the cuteness was off the charts.
Linda said it was a success with a cat being adopted during the event and another after.
