Spotlight: Welcome to May!

May is here and it’s time to perfect your autumn reading list. Imagine cold nights with a fresh new title to warm your bones. Come check our new releases or peruse the eResources.

Post-school holidays, our weekly programmes are back in full swing. Book your child in for extra reading help with Bookends Literacy Assist on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, or bring them to Junior Brain Games on Wednesday, May 7 at 3.30pm to recalibrate the dreaded school mode.

Spotlight: Large Print Collection

Find yourself squinting at words in books? Try a large print novel!

These titles are easier on the eyes and come in a variety of genres, from general fiction to romance to good ol’ westerns. There are lots of bestselling authors hiding in plain sight. Just look for the shelves near the public computers.

Spotlight: New books

Art Class: Flowers and Foliage (741 HAN) by Sarah Hankinson is new to Hobbies and Interests.

This title is a beginner’s guide to creating contemporary botanical art for everyone who loves flowers: tulips, sunflowers, orchids and many more. Fantastic ice-breaker exercises include drawing with the non-dominant hand, blind contour exercise to test hand-eye coordination, and many more.

From author Salomey Doku comes graphic novel, Brielle and Bear (YAF DOK).

First-year student Brielle attends Once Upon a Time University with the intention of living her fairytale dream. And when she meets Bear, shy vice-captain of the Princes rugby team, at the bookshop where she works, Brielle’s dream is off to a good start. That is, until she discovers that she’s not the only one hiding something…

For avid motorcyclists, borrow Ultimate Motorcycle Tours (912 ROF) by Grant Roff.

Perfect for casual motorcycle riders (not just hardcore adventurers), all routes included in this guide are on made, public roads with only average skill levels required for those inspired to recreate the rides. Featured rides span time zones and continents.

Come carve a path around the library shelves. Sorry, no motorcycles allowed!
