From the mayor’s desk

By Cr Colleen Fuller

Once again, Gunnedah Shire has paid moving tribute to all those who have served in conflict.

Anzac Day is an important day for both our shire and our nation, and it is pleasing to see that the tradition of honouring those who have served and those who have fallen continues. People across our shire join marches, attend services, lay wreaths and visit memorials.

Gunnedah shire includes impressive and important monuments to the Anzacs, including one of Australia’s oldest, the Tambar Springs War Memorial.

It is an honour to take part in our Anzac Day traditions. May they continue for the next 100 years and beyond.

And in another indication of the wonderful community spirit of Gunnedah shire, we will be holding ‘Welcome Markets’ on Saturday, May 17.

The Welcome Markets, to be held in partnership with Two Rivers Arts Council as part of the regular May Gunnedah Country Markets, will include market stalls, information stalls, children’s activities and live music.

The markets are a welcome event for not only new residents, but those who have lived here a while but would like to find out more about everything our Shire has to offer.

The markets will start at 8am and continue until 1pm, with a free guided bus tour at 11am and 12.15pm. You will need to book for the bus tours through the Gunnedah Shire Council website www.gunnedah.nsw.gov.au

It is also not to late to book a stallholder site for the markets, with a form also available on council’s website.

Council is also inviting expressions of interest for a collaborative community project – Christmas on Conadilly.

We are seeking individuals or community groups to come up with ideas to decorate Conadilly Street with handmade works to foster a positive community spirit.

We all love Christmas, and this is an opportunity to make our main street more festive and boost local businesses.

You can find more details on council’s website.
