Gunnedah swimmers made a splash at their first hit-out of the short course season when they dived in for the NUSwim open carnival on the weekend of April 26-27.
Sixteen competitors made the trip to the Hunter region where they achieved medals and some great personal best (PB) times.
With a number of the club’s state swimmers on a break due to the high intensity training of the recent long-course season, it was still a positive turnout, especially for some of the younger kids who hadn’t experienced much short course work.
Gunnedah coach Colin Marley was impressed with his squad’s performance as some swimmers achieved short course NSW Country times.
“They went really well,” he said.
“You would expect big PB times with short course because it’s been a while since they’ve done it, but because our focus has been on turns, underwater work and starts, the short course season is a great opportunity to improve those skills.”
The carnival proved to be very competitive, with clubs from the Central Coast and Sydney taking part.
Marley was also impressed with the range of events his swimmers competed in, including 200m and 400m races.
